Working out though breast cancer
Working out though breast cancer has helped me a lot. At first, I would just walk around the block to try to get away from all that was going on. Then, after Lexington was born Todd and I started walking a little more (2 to 3 miles) at our own pace. About a month into walking, we started timing how long it took us to walk 3 miles.
Soon, I was getting up at 4:45 in the morning to meet my friend Erica to walk the golf course. We would walk 4 to 5 miles every morning Monday thru Friday. Then in the evening, I would walk about another 4 miles with Todd in . Walking became something that I did a to find relief, but it turned in to something that I LOVED to do!! After about 4 months I started running. Let me clarify running, I started off running a 1/2 mile,which I thought was going to kill me… LOL Eventually, I worked my way up to running and walking 5 miles. Just in time to go into my next surgery.
This last surgery was probably my hardest surgery and I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I was not working out prior to it. I went into surgery on September 21, 2016 and was finally healing by Thanksgiving. I spent 5 days in the hospital, and ended up having to have 2 more surgeries after that to fix one of the incisions that became infected. When I finely got the ok to start working out again it was December. Of course, the busiest time of the year. Plus, I don’t have time for that with all the great goodies floating around. So, in January we joined the YMCA. That is when I started working out with Dana and Niki in weight training. These ladies were no joke, I thought I could jump in there with them and keep up. I learned very quickly that I was not on their level! When you dread going to the bathroom, because you know it’s going to hurt so bad to sit down. Or your nightly routine is to take an epsom salt bath to ease the pain but, GOD does it help… Here is the Epsom Salt that I use and love these days. These were clues that I was not on their level, maybe I ate one too many Christmas goodies, or it could just be both… HAHAHA
I have been working out with these ladies for about 4 weeks and I’m LOVING it. We take pictures at the end of our workout, that way we can see where we started and where we are at now. I’m starting to see some result from the torture I’m putting myself through. Even though I still get sore, it’s nothing like it was when I first started. I also can’t wait until Spring gets here so Erica and I can start walking again.
